It only happens once a year
    1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before? Take voice lessons. Get a nursing license. Sang karaoke with a live band and lived to tell the tale.

    2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I continued with my "life resolutions" and they were as follows:
Write. Something. Anything. (didn't happen again. You know, I actually don't care about writing that much anymore. Taking this off the life resolution list)
Learn to play the guitar. (continued the journey. Need to practice more)
Learn to sing better. (So much better. So much more confident. Need to continue lessons)
Learn to knit. (Brushed up on old skills. Need to expand the repertoire)
Learn to love men who love me as I am. (Done and done)
Go easier on my family. (It's a process. Cut my little brother way more slack)
As always, be nicer. (Nursing helps me do this)
Stop maintaining friendships with people I don't actually like. (Mission Accomplished. Removing from list.)
Maintain the friendships that matter. (For sure did better, even with nursing school craziness)
Travel. Even more this year. (Fair amount of travel, especially this summer. Above and beyond next year!)
See even more art. (Saw way more live music this year. That counts as art)
Dance even more than that. (Shook it quite a bit. Continue next year)
Finish a triathlon. (Not this year. Sometime.)
Spend less frivolously. (Better and worse. I spent frivolously on others)
Burn less gas. (Clinicals in Silverdale didn't help. Not going to Bremerton helped though)
Be less contemptuous of the v. young and v. old. (probably about the same)
    Be less contemptuous. (ditto)
Perfect my Spanish. (Que pena. No)
Learn passable French. (Practiced with Sonya and Lansana. It's getting better)
Look good (better?) naked. (Always a struggle)

    Last Year's additions:
-Get an academic scholarship (meh, got enough money without one)
-Keep the nursing school weight gain to an absolute minimum (Maintained the weight I'd gained.)
-See my family more (Saw mom more. Saw less of my brothers.)
-Save money for my kickass end of school European tour (I saved $30. Ouch)
-Keep working on my life resolutions (Look at me, ma! I learned to sing!)

Will consider what to add to this list for the future.

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Why yes. Francesca Lela (Frankie) came into this world on Tax Day and I saw her little head come out of my best friend's vajayjay. It was magical.

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank God. Let's maintain this trend, shall we?

    5. What countries did you visit?
Not even Canada. Unless I make it up to visit Su before the end of the year.

    6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A Master's Degree. And a thesis. First the latter then the former.

    7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The day Laura gave birth to Frankie was fantastic. I'd never seen a live birth before and it was just amazing. There were only 6 people in the room and then there were 7.

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my nursing license and not dropping out of grad school despite being greatly vexed

    9. What was your biggest failure?
Spend way too much time pining and being a silly girl.

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
    Just heartbreak.

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
    The loveseat from Liz

    12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Liz. May she find a new job in the new year.

    13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
    Kanye's a dick.

    14. Where did most of your money go?
    Tuition, books, gas, eating out

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting my nursing license. Going to Hawaii.

    16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
    Single Ladies by Beyonce

    17. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder? ii. thinner or fatter? iii. richer or poorer?
    i. happier. My life is going well.
ii. fatter, nursing school does not help the waistline. Still the same.
iii. poorer. School got more expensive and Obama did not get me more loan money.

    18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
    Read fiction

    19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Fretting over boys. Too bad this is what I wish I'd done less of last year too.

    20. How will you be spending New Year's?
At Liz's new pad with, hopefully, Noobin.

    21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Not in love, but there's some serious like going on.

    22. How many one-night stands?
Chicago has always been very good to me.

    23. What was your favorite TV program?
GLEE! 30 Rock, V, The Office

    24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope, still everyone I disliked last year I dislike this year.

    25. What was the best book you read?
The newest installment in the Outlander series is pretty awesome

    26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
    I <3 Owl City and ZO2.

    27. What did you want and get?
    A nursing license!

    28. What was your favorite film of this year?
500 Days of Summer was ok. I didn't see very many movies.

    29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 26. It was the best birthday in recent memory. Nick drove all my nearest and dearest to Jazzbones to Rockaraoke there. I got tipsy (read: smashed) and I sang in front of God and everybody. Spent the rest of it with my guitar hero.

    30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
    Less worry.

    31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Business casual for school. Jeans with cute tops when going out. Dresses with leggings and boots for fancy.

    32. What kept you sane? Liz. Sonya. Sleep.

    33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
    Slash

    34. Who did you miss?
    Dad.

    35. Who was the best new person you met? Liz. Technically I'd met her last year but we fell in love this year. We're soulmates. (I guess here is where I *should* say Noobin but Liz and I have been in love since this spring so she gets this coveted spot).

    Well how 'bout that
So, I kind of have one of those boyfriend things. It's been a while since I've had a real honest to god boyfriend I hardly know what to do with myself.

His name is Ben (or Noobin (New Ben, get it? get it?)) and he is *adorable*. We met online and have been seeing each other for a couple months now and I think he is just all kinds of delightful. He's never dated anyone online before (see? Noobin? Noob? HAHAHA I am teh clever) and has been all kinds of confused that the first person he meets off the int0rwebs is as awesome as me. We had "the talk" last night and we're definitely only seeing each other which makes me feel kind of squidgy inside. A good kind of squidgy.

And that's the story on him. He is a smartypants with a great sense of humor who gets along great with my friends. He is sweet as pie but we're working on making sure he's not too sweet. :)

I'm looking forward to starting the new year with him. I haven't had a real honest-to-god relationship relationship in years. I forgot what it's like to have a partner. I think I'm going to like it.

Mama (ok, not my mama, but imagine) always said that the best way to get over an old boyfriend is to get under a new one. Mission accomplished.

(Actually mom always said that the way to get over an old boyfriend is to get a new one. My version's just updated for modern audiences.)
